How much luggage can a charter bus carry in Singapore?

It depends on the vehicle. Singapore Bus Charter runs three sizes. The 23 seater minibus has no undercarriage hold, so bags share the cabin and it suits hand carry only. The 45 seater and 49 seater coaches have side loading holds under the passenger deck, so check in suitcases travel outside the cabin. The 49 seater has the most hold space.

One thing decides how much luggage a bus can take: whether it has a hold under the floor. Every bus charter in Singapore we run is a 23 seater minibus, a 45 seater coach or a 49 seater coach, and only two of those three have a hold.

Bags travel inside the cabin with everyone else, on the overhead racks and the fold down rear row. That works well for backpacks, laptop bags and small cabin trolleys. It does not work for a full set of check in suitcases, because every large bag you load takes up space a passenger was going to sit in.

The 49 seater uses the same side loading design as the 45 seater with more room in the hold. That extra volume is why we point arrival groups to it when everyone is carrying one big bag plus a carry on. If your numbers sit right at the limit of a 45 seater, this is the safer booking.

How luggage changes the bus you should book

Booking on headcount alone can leave you with a bus that seats everyone but cannot carry their bags. That is the most common sizing mistake we see. Count people and bags as two separate numbers before you choose.

Count the bags, then the seats

Write down two numbers: how many people are travelling, and how many bags they are bringing in total. A group of 20 with a rucksack each and a group of 20 with a check in suitcase each need different vehicles, even though the headcount is identical.

The rear row folds down to make luggage space, so a minibus carrying real luggage seats fewer than 23 people. Plan for that when you count heads. If your group is small and travelling light, the minibus is still the easiest vehicle to get into tight pickup points around the island.

Running full seats and a full hold at the same time is where loading goes slow and something gets left behind. If your numbers land right on the edge, move up one size. The step up in vehicle is small next to the trouble of a bag that will not fit on the day.

Arrival groups are the hardest luggage job we do, because everyone walks out of the hall with a full size case at the same moment. This is the exact trip where a minibus runs out of room.

A 23 seater cannot hold 23 check in suitcases, so for a full flight arrival the 45 seater or 49 seater is the right call. A small group travelling with cabin sized bags still fits a minibus. The break point is bag size, not head count.

Loading at the terminal takes time

Trolleys have to be emptied and returned before the coach can move. Coach bays at Changi are for loading, not waiting, so we bring the coach in once your group is ready. Bring your group out together rather than in ones and twos so the coach can load in one go. Your driver handles the hold doors and the stacking.

Give us the flight number when you book. The driver checks the landing time and plans the pickup around it, so you are not waiting for the coach after you clear customs. A late landing still brings the whole group and every case out at once, so size the vehicle for a full hold rather than a trickle of bags. Departures are easier than arrivals

Heading to the airport, you load once at a hotel or office with time in hand, so a tighter fit is workable. Coming back is the tight leg. If you are booking a return trip, size the vehicle for the arrival, not the departure.

A 45 seater handles this easily. Day bags and water bottles sit on laps or on the overhead racks, and the hold takes the sports gear, project boards or picnic boxes. Count the bulky shared items rather than the personal bags, because the shared kit is what fills a hold on a school trip.

Count the boxes before you count the people. Boxes are square and rigid, so they use up hold space much faster than suitcases. A 49 seater with a light passenger load is often the right answer, and a multi stop day is easier when the kit stays on board between venues.

Book with the last day in mind. Groups often arrive with one bag each and leave with two. If the trip finishes at the airport after a few days of shopping, size the coach for what people will actually be carrying at the end.

Anything that is not a suitcase needs to be declared when you book, so we can check the hold space before we confirm your vehicle. None of these items carry an extra charge, we simply need to know they are coming.

Golf bags fit the 45 seater and 49 seater holds. Send us the exact bag count and we will confirm the fit before you book. They will not fit inside a 23 seater cabin in any useful number, and tell us about trolleys as well if you are bringing your own.

Prams, strollers and wheelchairs

Folded prams and strollers travel fine on all three vehicles. Foldable manual wheelchairs go into the coach hold without trouble. A motorised wheelchair needs a check first because of its weight and size, so tell us the model when you book and we will confirm before the day.

Bicycles, surfboards and instruments

Bicycles are rarely practical in a standard hold, so ask us before you plan around it. Boards and large instrument cases usually fit a 45 seater or 49 seater hold when the passenger load is light. Cellos, double basses and drum kits should always be declared by item count.

Boxes, crates and event kit

What cannot travel

Does luggage cost extra on a bus charter?

No. Singapore Bus Charter does not charge per bag. What luggage can change is the size of vehicle you need, and the vehicle size is what changes the price.

Bags are free, bigger vehicles are not
